Android’s Proxy Settings

Setting up a proxy on an Android device allows you to route your internet traffic through a specific server, which can be useful for accessing restricted content, maintaining privacy, or testing purposes.

The steps to configure a proxy vary slightly depending on the version of Android and the manufacturer's customizations, but the general process is as follows:

Step 1: Open Settings

On your Android device, open the "Settings" app, typically represented by a gear or cog icon.

Step 2: Access Wi-Fi Settings

  1. Scroll down and tap on "Network & Internet" or directly on "Wi-Fi" depending on your device's settings organization.

  1. Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on and connected to the network you wish to configure the proxy for.

Step 3: Modify Network

  1. Tap and hold the Wi-Fi network name you are connected to until a menu appears, or tap the "gear or i" icon next to the network name.

  1. Select "Modify network", "Manage network settings", or a similarly titled option. Other phone models, you can simply scroll down.

Step 4: Show Advanced Options

  1. Depending on your device, you might see "View More", "Advanced Options", "Advanced Settings" or an "Edit" button.

Step 5: Proxy Settings

Look for a setting related to "Proxy" and tap it to expand the proxy options.

Step 6: Select Manual Proxy Configuration

Choose "Manual" from the proxy options to enter the proxy settings manually.

Step 7: Proxy Details

  1. Get the information from your Geonode dashboard. Copy the address indicated in your 'Host' by clicking on the copy icon.

  1. In the proxy hostname, enter the address of the proxy server.

3. Use 9001 for the port number. This is the specific port you'll need to use for the connection. Make sure to enter it exactly as shown.

4. If there is an option for it and your proxy requires authentication, note that Android's built-in settings may not directly support entering a username and password for the proxy. You might need to enter these credentials within the specific apps you use or look for a third-party proxy app that supports authentication.

5. Enter any websites or domains you don’t want to use a proxy on.

Step 6: Save and Exit

  1. After entering the proxy details, scroll down and tap "Save" to apply the changes.

  1. Exit the settings menu.

Step 8: Test the Proxy Configuration

  1. Turn off your Wi-Fi, then turn it back on. Open a browser on your phone and go to a website. You will see a message asking for your proxy login details. Enter your username and password here.

  1. Open a web browser or any app that uses internet access to test if the proxy configuration is working correctly. Try navigating to a website to confirm that the traffic is being routed through the proxy server.
  2. If you're unable to connect, double-check the proxy details you entered for any errors.
